Many people need jobs to survive in the world today. Without the jobs there have been studies to shown by, Daniel Sullivan and Till von Wachter, that estimate from 50% to 100% of increase in death rates for older male workers in the years immediately following a job loss. The higher mortality rate implies that a male worker displaced in mid career can expect to live about one and a half years less than than a worker who keeps his job. There are many reasons for mortality, and one of them is suicide. There has been a recent study that a 10% increase in the unemployment rate would increase suicide male by 1.47%. This is not a small rate because that would add 128 more suicides per month to the U.S. Also there have been studies to show that unemployed men face a 25% higher risk of dying of the diseases, heart disease and psychiatric problems. (Baker) The House Republicans' plan to solve the recent debt crisis would have shrunk the government to its 1950s size. In other words this would effectively repeal Roosevelt's New Deal. "It was the first time that Americans thought of their government as a solution to the problems that individuals and society at large were experiencing," says Jean Edward Smith, a political science professor at Marshall University. Without the new deal many people would not have jobs and be unemployed which will effect the economy once again.(Weiman)
